CMMS Student Jackie Hunter, Educational Talent Search Scholar, Becomes Published Author

The Gloria J. Taylor Foundation (GJTF) is proud to announce that two Educational Talent Search scholars have officially become published authors. One of these scholars is Jackie Hunter, an 8th grader at Crete-Monee Middle School.
During the GJTF Summer Academy, students were given the opportunity to write original short stories as part of a special literacy and college-readiness project. The top submissions were selected for publication, providing students with a unique opportunity to become published authors at a young age.
Congratulations to Jackie Hunter, an 8th grader at Crete-Monee Middle School, who co-wrote the book I Belong Here: AJ and Janae’s First College Visit with Angelo Watts, an 8th grader at Michelle Obama School.
Their book, I Belong Here: AJ and Janae’s First College Visit, tells the inspiring story of two students experiencing their first college tour and discovering the possibilities that higher education can offer. Through their journey, readers are encouraged to dream big, believe in themselves, and envision a future filled with opportunity.
“I am incredibly proud of Angelo and Jackie for their hard work, creativity, and dedication,” said Dr. Theresa Dixon, CEO of The Gloria J. Taylor Foundation. “This accomplishment demonstrates what is possible when students are given opportunities to explore their talents and share their voices with the world.”
The book is now available for purchase on Amazon. All proceeds from book sales will support the GJTF Scholarship Fund, helping provide educational opportunities for future scholars. We encourage families, community members, educators, and supporters to purchase a copy and celebrate these outstanding young authors.
Congratulations to Jackie and Angelo on this remarkable achievement! Their names will forever be associated with a published work that inspires other young people to see themselves on a college campus and pursue their dreams.
